PETALING JAYA: A security firm has hit out in goldsmith and jewellery shops for not needing to pay more on security, stating it only increases the risk of their stores being robbed.
Securiteam Protection Services Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Basant Singh said almost all those stores used only one security guard during working hours, which might go beyond 12 hours per day.
He said manpower was required to minimise the security guard hours, including that many stores guards due to requirements by their insurers.
Basant stated a few jewellers and goldsmiths are not currently investing more and taking security measures that were better knowing that they could maintain insurance .
He was requested to comment on instances of robberies at jewellery stores, using the more notable one between eight robbers who escaped with RM1.5 million worth of jewelry at a New Year’s Eve heist that lasted only three minutes.
On claims that security guards often do not act against robbers, Basant reported the priority was to ensure that of the shop operators in addition to their security.
“They have been trained to not act in a way that may cost their own lives and people around them at the shops.
“Additionally, they can not simply fire off at a high tier shopping mall, for example. And when four assailants armed with guns come to fruition, what do you expect the protector to do?”
Said the occupation of a security guard would be to serve to stop a crime from occurring to respond to it.
Meanwhile, police remain tight-lipped on investigations to the three recent jewelry heists at Seremban, Bangi and Cheras.
“We will have a media conference on those shootings and goldsmith heists when we have tied up all loose ends,” said deputy KL police leader DCP Datuk Zainuddin Yaacob.
The three cases had the identical modus operandi jobs that were over in minutes and also the robbers had their accomplices waiting outside of the premises.
In the latest incident in Seremban on Thursday night, eight gunmen stormed to a goldsmith shop and carted away six trays of all in three minutes.
